Es geht um eine Reise zu einem von mir entdeckten unbekannten Schiffswrack vor Grönland und dessen Erkundung.

Ein weltberühmter Amerikanischer Unterwasserarchäologe, welcher u.a. das Wrack der Titanic vermessen hat, bezeichnete meinen Fund als "faszinierend" und erkundungswert.

m Juni 2017 werde ich das Wrack, welches die Umrisse eines Wikingerschiffs hat, aus der Nähe untersuchen.

Kurz-Treatment: Möglicher Inhalt der Sendung

Schatzsucher und Wracktaucher sind immer auf der Suche nach dem großen Fund. Die Faszination des 'Ultima Thule', des großen Unbekannten, übt eine Anziehungskraft aus, welche diese Dokumentation vermitteln könnte.

Ein Film über diese oder weitere follow-up Expeditionen zur Disko Insel beschränkt sich deshalb nicht auf das Schiffswrack an sich, sondern enthält auch Theorien über dessen Herkunft und seine mögliche historische Bedeutung.

Das Narrative kann durch die folgenden Punkte ergänzt werden, um ein Programm zu füllen,

(Inhalt aus "Shipwreck survey proposal"):

1.) Hintergrund des Schiffswrack "Fox" in der Nähe, welches bei der Suche nach der Franklin-Expedition beteiligt war,

2.) Entdeckung eines nicht wirklich positiv identifizierten Langhauses (es gab keine bekannten Ausgrabungen; ist es Thule oder Viking?),

3.) Beschreibung der historischen Wikingerrouten nach Amerika, die in der Nähe des Schiffbruchs und des Langhauses verliefen,

4.) Spekulationen über eine historische Karte von Olaus Magnus, der die Umrisse der Disko-Insel zeichnete und "Thule" (Tile) nannte,

5.) Spekulation der Nutzung von nativem Eisenerz von Disko Island als Ballast auf Wikinger-Langschiffen,

6.) und nicht zuletzt das Schiffswrack selbst.

Falls es sich um ein Wikingerschiff handelt, für das es zu diesem Zeitpunkt nur indirekte Indizien gibt, wäre es das größte jemals gefundene und damit eine Welt-Sensation.

Diese Wahrscheinlichkeit ist eher gering, aber sie besteht.

Ich kann darüber zu diesem Zeitpunkt frei spekulieren, da ich ein archäologischer Amateur bin.
Einige archäologische Amateure haben bedeutende Beiträge zur Erforschung der Geschichte geliefert.

Schliemann ging den griechischen Sagen nach, und fand das historische Troja. Wir könnten den Nordischen Sagas nachgehen, und über das historische Thule stolpern, oder das, was die Wikinger oder Olaus Magnus dafür hielten.

Wird ein Wikinger-Schiff und/oder Thule gefunden werden?

Oder finden wir ein Walfangschiff nahe der Insel bei der die Wikinger im Jahre 985 CE nach Westen beidrehten, um Amerika zu besiedeln?

Das sind die offenen Fragen.

This is about a trip to an unknown shipwreck I discovered near Greenland and its exploration.

A world-famous American underwater archaeologist who, amongst other things, surveyed and measured the wreck of the Titanic, described my find as "fascinating" and worthy of further exploration.

In June of 2017 I would like to investigate the wreck, which has the outline of a Viking vessel.

Who wants to film this, or a follow-up, and make a TV-show from it?

Short treatment: Possible content of the show

Treasure hunters and wreck-hunters are always looking for the great find.
The fascination of the 'Ultima Thule', the great unknown, exerts an attraction that could be captured in this documentary.

A film about this or further follow-up expeditions to Disko island is therefore not limited to the shipwreck itself, but also talks about its possible origin and historical significance.

The narrative can be supplemented by the following points to fill a program,

(Content from "Shipwreck survey proposal"):

1.) Background on the shipwreck "Fox", which was involved in the search for the Franklin expedition,

2.) Discovery of a not really positively identified longhouse (there were no kown excavations; is it Thule or Viking?),

3.) Description of the historic Viking routes to America, which passed near the shipwreck and the longhouse,

4.) Speculations about the historical 'Carta Magna' map of Olaus Magnus, who drew the outlines of the Disko Island and called "Thule" (Tile),

5.) Speculation of the use of native iron ore from Disko Island as ballast on Viking long ships,

6.) and last but not least the shipwreck itself.

If it is a Viking ship, for which there are only indirect indications at this time, it would be the largest ever one found and thus a world sensation.

This probability is rather low, but it exists.

I can freely speculate about this at this time, because I am an archaeological amateur.
Some archaeological amateurs have made significant contributions to the study of history.

Schliemann followed the Greek legends and found the historical Troy. We could follow the Northern sagas, stumble over the historic Thule, or what the Vikings or Olaus Magnus thought was Disko Island.

Will a Viking ship and / or Thule be found?
Or will we find a whaling ship, near the island where the Vikings turned westward in 985 CE, for whatever reason,
to discover America?
